Arthur Joseph Meadows (1843-1907)
Unloading the Catch
Trained by his father James Meadows Senior and influenced by Clarkson Stanfield, Meadows was a premier British marine artist who regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy. Unloading the Catch demonstrates his skill in blending realistic, busy coastal scenes with the dramatic, luminous atmosphere of the sea, utilizing thick impasto for water textures and delicate glazes for sky lighting.
