He was a flower & landscape painter who lived in Exeter & Cornwall. He often painted in Dorset, Devon, Cornwall & Spain. Specialised in night scenes for which he is best known.
He exhibited mainly at the Royal Society of British Artists, but also at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters & elsewhere.
