Born in Essex on February 12, 1876, Enness was principally known as a landscape painter. He worked from an address in Whitby, Yorkshire between 1905 and 1915 when he moved to St. John’s Wood in London where he remained until 1937.
Enness exhibited 190 times, including 9 at the Royal Academy, 43 at the Royal Society of British Artists and 40 at the Royal Society of Oil Painters. He was elected an Associate member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1923 and became a full member in 1925.
His work shows the change in style between the late Victorian period and the British Post Impressionist movement which concentrated on light and atmosphere.
