He was a Tunbridge Wells Artist who was educated at the Royal College of Art, where he won a Gold Medal for drawing. His work appeared from 1832 onward at the Suffolk Street Gallery and, from 1847 to 1859, he exhibited at the Royal Academy. The landscape of Tunbridge Wells, with its hills, trees and buildings was the inspiration for many of his works, which were done at a time when the town was changing rapidly.
