A mid-19th Century marine artist who painted atmospheric calms rather in the manner of Abraham Hulk. Stainton’s paintings are frequently of vessels in calm seas and with soft lighting, often at dawn or sunset. His style was professional and seems to have been influenced by the Dutch School.
