He was a landscape, coastal & marine painter who worked in oil & watercolour. He lived in Clifton, Bristol, where he shared a studio with S. Jackson, & near Alton, Hampshire.
He exhibited in London from 1855 to 1873. Many of his subjects were taken from Devon, Cornwall & South Wales. He also painted in Yorkshire, the Channel Islands, Germany & Belgium.
