Horace Henry Cauty was born in Southwark, London the son of an artist. He was a member of the Royal British Academy, serving as secretary under James McNeill Whistler’s presidency.
He specialized in genre, landscape and historical subjects and his 1885 work Tennis Players (Private Collection) is perhaps his best known painting.
