Marine painter, watercolourist & teacher. He was born in Edinborough. He studied under Alexander Naysmyth & in 1801 he visited Paris & Rome. In 1808 he was appointed the teacher of drawing at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, East India College, Addiscombe & Royal Navel College, Portsmouth. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, British Institution, Suffolk Street, Old Watercolour Society & elsewhere.
