He was Born in Merthyr Tydfill, Wales. He was a pupil of the RA Schools. After 1827 he lived mainly in Rome & exhibited at RA between 1822-69, BI, SS & OWS. He painted Italian landscapes & scenes of Italian life. His most characteristic type of picture is the view of the Campagna, with peasants in the forground, & a distant view of Rome beyond. He also painted portraits, including one of his friend John Gibson RA. His studio sale was held at Christie’s on June 21 1886.
